You are invited to the launch of Dr. Amin Ghaziani’s new book There Goes the Gayborhood, published by Princeton University Press. A lecture by the author will be followed by a reception.
Gay neighborhoods, like the legendary Castro District in San Francisco and New York’s Greenwich Village, have long provided sexual minorities with safe haven in an often unsafe world. But as our society increasingly accepts gays and lesbians into the mainstream, are “gayborhoods” destined to disappear?
Dr. Amin Ghaziani is an Associate Professor of Sociology at the University of British Columbia and Faculty Affiliate, Peter Wall Institute for Advanced Studies. He received his Ph.D. in sociology from Northwestern in 2006. Before joining the faculty at UBC, he was a postdoctoral fellow at the Princeton Society of Fellows. Ghaziani is a sociologist of sexualities with additional interests in culture, social movements, and cities.
